Today one of New Zealand’s mainstream financial websites, interest.co.nz, published this fear inducing narrative, being pushed for a few years now.
FEAR YOUR BANKNOTES
Warning of the risks of accepting cash based on information in the Reserve Bank’s 2024 Annual Report
“The amount of counterfeit cash in New Zealand is rising and the Reserve Bank says…scammers…get away with using more fake notes. Figures from the Reserve Bank’s latest annual report show the volume of counterfeit money in the country has risen by almost 300% in two years.
Despite there being “lots of security features” and the fact there is no way forging the NZ$ would in any way result in the financial benefit required to mitigate the risk and consequence, we’re supposed to believe this nonsense. I can just see the world’s top criminal forgers, sitting in their cigar-smoke-filled annual conference room, scratching their heads…the meeting is serious…participants straining their brains…
“What note shall we forge?
ummm…
the US dollar??
ummm…
the British pound??
ummm…
the Euro??
ummm…
the Yen??
ummm…
Australian dollar…??
No…no…no…let’s forge the most valuable of them all.
THE NEW ZEALAND DOLLAR!1
Somehow I think the Reserve Bank, and the reporting, was being more honest when Peter Northcote, a spokesperson for the bank's money and cash department said
…New Zealand has a really low level of counterfeiting by international standards and that's because our notes are so good. They've got lots of security features. None of our security features have been successfully defeated or replicated by any forger…Reserve Bank rejects multiple claims over fake bank notes — Radio New Zealand, 18 December 2021
And when Graeme Denny, Senior Manager of Cash Services at the Reserve Bank said
…New Zealand doesn’t have a huge counterfeiting problem, and the fake banknotes we do see are low quality and easily detected using the look-feel-tilt method…New Zealand has a very low rate of counterfeiting due to our multiple security features which can be checked easily. Not one of our security features has been successfully compromised…Reserve Bank reminds retailers to train new cash handlers on fake note detection — Reserve Bank of New Zealand, 8 December 2023
The Reserve Bank’s 2024 Annual Report states
This looks to me like narrative; the central bankers do want to get rid of that cash.

Yeah, a narrative to push CBDC's. I say We would do vastly better if no One needed money at all to afford all of what They need and most of what They want.

Banksters identifying counterfeiters? Pot calling the kettle black?
Ha ha, just kidding, I know the scrupulously honest and pure of heart financial/banking industry have the publics best interest at heart, and are just looking out for us. Right?
